The story of Oleksiy and Olena Kurbatov began in 2009. Their sister organized a family-style children’s home and raised 10 children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“And we realized that in this life, besides leaving behind car tracks, we can leave something useful. We weren’t planning on taking in more than three children, but the concept of a family-style children’s home attracted us (a family-style children’s home is formed when a family takes in 5 or more children). We thought we’d take in three and that would be enough, but somehow, where there are three, there are ten,” shares the foster father.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the time that has passed since the start of Russia’s full-scale aggression against Ukraine, the composition of their family-style children’s home has changed. Four of the older children left the family-style home, but in March of this year, three new children became part of the family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Everything is well-arranged in their family-style children’s home – the older children look after the younger ones, the younger ones look up to the older ones, and they seamlessly blend into the family. They enjoy living in an organized environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The children’s interests come first for us. We don’t impose my views or desires, but rather, we communicate primarily, trying to understand what the child wants. I suggest options without insisting, and if the child agrees, we follow a certain plan,” Oleksiy shares.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
