Phoenix, Lifesaver

In 2018, as part of the assistance program for Ukrainian children by Global2000, Austrian philanthropists purchased a semi-automatic hematological analyzer PHOENIX NCC-3300. The device was donated to the Municipal Clinical Children’s Hospital No. 16 of the Kharkiv City Council in Kharkiv. Thanks to this device, hospital specialists were able to conduct blood cell tests quickly, qualitatively, and around the clock – which is crucial for the laboratory of the intensive care unit, that is, emergency care.

“Of small size, fast, convenient, and most importantly – accurate, the device has become our indispensable assistant in daily practice and in urgent cases when it is necessary to obtain such vital indicators for a child within 1 minute. Previously, similar tests without the device could take up to two hours. Plus, the device requires only a small amount of blood for analysis. We work with young patients, so this is also a valuable factor,” says Yevheniya Suslova, a laboratory doctor of the intensive care unit.

Accurate blood tests are critically important for the quality diagnosis and treatment of oncological and hematological diseases in children. Therefore, for all 6 years, the hospital’s specialists closely monitored the device’s operation, and “Phoenix” underwent annual technical maintenance. However, at the beginning of 2024, it broke down.

“Our ‘Baby’ – that’s what we affectionately call it in our department – fell ill. Suddenly, one of the important parts broke down. This meant that children who come to the hospital to the emergency department, as well as children who are already under observation and require round-the-clock monitoring of their condition, could be at risk. There are cases when decisions need to be made quickly based on the blood condition, based on analysis, to understand what is happening in the child’s body. Visual symptoms do not always indicate the correct diagnosis. We asked for help from friends at the NGO ‘Global 2000 for Children of Ukraine,’ and they, of course, responded to our request,” recalls Yevheniya.

Our foundation paid for the equipment repair in the amount of 34,500 hryvnias.

Yevheniya Suslova conveys words of gratitude:

“Now we have the opportunity to continue providing quality, fast, and round-the-clock medical care to our little patients in our indomitable Kharkiv. Thank you, friends!
