A game is the most serious thing in the world. We learn the world through it as children, and then teach our children through it. Real play is a resource for an adult as well.
The psychological service at the City Clinical Children’s Hospital No. 16 of the Kharkiv City Council launched the “Doctor Baby” project.
“I’m not being treated, but I’m being treated – a therapeutic method to strengthen children’s active position,” says Vlada Yevseyeva, who oversees many important psychological programs at the hospital. “Through play, we tell young patients about the complex processes of their treatment. And children share what they feel, for example, during the procedures.”
Thanks to the NGO Student Self-Government of Kharkiv National Medical University, the project created the program “Merry Consultation”. Practicing medical students visited the hospital on their own initiative a year ago. Unfortunately, further interaction had to be postponed due to the war.
On January 29, 2023, a long-awaited meeting of children and students took place. During the event, young doctors showed and taught the children various medical procedures:
how to properly perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation on a mannequin;;
how to administer intravenous and intramuscular injections;
how to perform lumbar puncture and bandaging of “injured” people.
Each child was able to demonstrate the knowledge gained with the help of a CPR mannequin and soft toys.
The Global2000 Children’s Fund has been continuously supporting the activities and development of the psychological service at Hospital #16. The goal of both our teams is to provide fast and effective help to children. That’s why we will continue to tell you about interesting events and partnerships, so stay tuned.
